"The Standard Of The World"

This page is dedicated to the history and evolution of the Cadillac automobile.

Founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, Cadillac quickly gained a reputation for quality and excellence. He named the car after Antoine De la Mothe Cadillac, the founder of Detroit.

Mr. Leland had a great sense of history, and as a humble individual, he never thought of naming a car after himself. A few years later after GM acquired Cadillac, he went on to establish another famous automobile marque; the Lincoln.

Most cars back then were hand built, so parts were not very interchangeable. Cadillac was one of the first cars built from standardized components.
