HOTEL LOCKS SERVICES, INC.

History

As John  Martin began selling hardware supplies to hotels and motels in 1976, general managers and chief engineers kept asking him to recommend someone to service their locks. At the time, the hotel industry was growing quickly while the locksmith industry was lagging behind educationally. Hotel staff were finding it difficult to locate locksmiths who could deal with the complex master key systems of their properties.  Always one to meet a customer's need, Martin trained as a locksmith, relying mainly on lock manufacturer engineers. He then began selling service along with supplies. For several years he rekeyed hotels and motels throughout the United States and, as a hotel lock specialist, could be in and out of a hotel in less time than the average locksmith who generally had to stop his work to take care of automotive and residential emergency calls.

Specializing allowed Martin to develop in-depth knowledge and experience in just one area of locksmithing while other locksmiths developed broad general knowledge necessary for general locksmithing.

By the early 1980s, the hotel industry was changing to card locks -- first mechanical and optical, then the magnetic stripe lock and now the Smart Card locks.

Martin was first certified by Yaletronics, then VingCard and he also installed or was certified by Ilco Unican, TimeLox, Schlage Intellis, Sargent, Saflox and Tesa. In 1996 he was certified  on CISA Mag and later Smart Card locks.

In 1999 Martin worked with a smart technology developer and he installed smart card locks at the University of Central Florida.

In 2000 Martin first began working as a consultant to the biotechnology industry concerning the development of fingerprint locks for the hospitality industry as well as for the university system.
